Our Story
Deeper Roots Foundation was born from a simple but profound conviction: that the brokenness of this world — whether in the heart of a combat veteran or in the endangered habitats of Africa — can only be healed through a relationship with Jesus Christ.
We are combat veterans, security professionals, biblical counselors, and passionate stewards of creation. We have stood on the front lines of war, walked through the valleys of PTSD, and experienced the redemptive power of Christ firsthand. We know what it means to be broken, and we know who puts the pieces back together.
Our mission: to restore warriors through Soldiers on Safari and Rooted & Restored, to protect the vulnerable through Rhino Regiment, to secure the faithful through Phronimos, and to stand with the persecuted church through One Voice. Every program is rooted in the belief that your true identity is not your rank, your diagnosis, or your job — it is who God says you are.
Leadership
Gregory Schwabe
Gregory Schwabe is a combat veteran who, after his service, carved out a career in the world of television and film — spending years behind the camera and on set, working alongside storytellers who shape culture and conversation. But no amount of creative success could quiet what he carried home from the battlefield.
Gregory was patient zero — the first to experience what would become Soldiers on Safari. Before there was a foundation, before there was a name for it, there was simply a broken veteran stepping into the African bush, camera in hand, searching for something he couldn't yet articulate. He found it in the stillness of creation, in the Word of God spoken under open skies, and in the brotherhood of men who understood loss without needing to explain it.
That experience changed everything. What healed him compelled him. Gregory founded Deeper Roots Foundation to ensure that no veteran has to search alone for the restoration he almost didn't find. His background — warrior, storyteller, (re)lenser — shapes every program DRF offers, and his conviction is simple: your true identity is not what you survived. It is who God says you are.
